SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) – Monday’s full moon will be a once in a lifetime special!

It’s the first time June’s full moon will have occurred on the same day as the summer solstice in at least 50 years (possibly longer, depending on your time zone).

Scientists say we may not see this occur again until 2062.

June’s full moon is also known as the Full Strawberry Moon. It’s seen as a signal to gather ripening fruit.

The Full Strawberry moon will rise on Sunday at 7:21pm. It will be 100% full on Monday at 6:04am. The moon will then set on Monday at 6:12am.

“The latest forecast calls for a partly cloudy sky on Sunday night,” said WLOX First Alert Meteorologist Wesley Williams. “Conditions should be generally fair along the Mississippi Gulf Coast for viewing. Just keep in mind that it should appear just like any other full moon; it’s the fact that it’s happening on the day of the summer solstice that’s special.”Click here to read more about the summer solstice full moon.
