LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Tax day typically falls on April 15 most years, but this year will be different.

This year you have a few extra days to file your tax returns. Taxes will be due Monday, April 18. This year taxes are pushed back because of the federal holiday ‘Emancipation Day’.

Wallet-Hub says Americans spend on average 16 hours doing their taxes. A task so dreaded, 27% of people surveyed said they would get an IRS tattoo if they could avoid taxes for life.

Taxpayers who live in or have businesses in the parishes declared federal disaster areas after last month’s flooding will get the Monday deadline automatically extended to July 15.
