LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – The public information officer for the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office has been arrested for felony theft.

District Attorney Keith Stutes told The Daily Advertiser that Maxine Trahan, 56, of Scott, is accused of stealing more than $25,000 in money seized from drug busts in the parish.

Stutes also said the total amount could be more than $50,000, and that more charges could come out of this ongoing investigation.

Trahan has been fired from the sheriff’s office, according to Stutes.

Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon called Trahan a “former” deputy in a written statement issued Friday.

Melancon went on to say:

“This is an ongoing investigation being conducted by the 15th Judicial District Attorney’s Office in Acadia Parish and the Louisiana State Police. No further details are available at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.”

Trahan had been the public information officer at the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office for the past ten years.

Records on the Acadia Parish Jail’s website show Trahan is out of jail on a $50,000 bond.Click Here to see the arrest affidavit from the District Attorney’s Office
