KALB – Louisiana – Accused murder suspect Melissa Hayes, who escaped from the Avoyelles Parish Detention Center on July 11, was captured without incident on July 15 by members of the U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Fugitive Task Force in Marrero.
During the investigation, deputies assigned to the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office Corrections Security Team worked closely with the local U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force as well as investigators from the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Alexandria Police Department and the local office of the Louisiana Department of Corrections-Probation & Parole in attempting to locate Hayes.
Due to the violent crime Hayes is accused of, law enforcement worked tirelessly to recapture her after the escape. Evidence obtained during the investigation implicated three subjects who assisted or had information to the whereabouts of Hayes.
On Tuesday July 14, Shemesha Michelle Bordley and Michael Jones, both of Alexandria, were arrested by Rapides Deputies for two counts of Accessory After the Fact in connection to the Hayes case. Myra Lee Hayes, also of Alexandria, was arrested for two counts Accessory After the Fact as well as Obstruction of Justice.
Bordley remains in the Rapides Parish Detention Center on $100,000.00 bond and Myra Lee Hayes is being held on $150,000.00 bond. Jones was released on a $40,000.00 bond. Deputies say their investigation is continuing and more arrests are possible.
“I would like to thank the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Alexandria Police Department, Louisiana Probation and Parole, the U.S. Marshals Task Force and our own Corrections Security Team for their efforts in apprehension of this escapee” said Sheriff William Earl Hilton. “When an inmate escapes from anywhere, law enforcement acts as one to bring this person to justice.”
