UPDATE:

The Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating an accident involving a school bus. The accident occurred on La Flamme Road near its intersection with Saint Nazaire Road.

According to authorities, the bus attempted to avoid an on coming vehicle, causing the bus to veer to the right and enter a road side ditch.

The driver of the vehicle which caused the accident has been transported to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s office and is being investigated for driving under the influence.

There were no major injuries to the passengers on the bus.

The accident is still under investigation.

More than a dozen students were on a school bus when it crashed into a ditch near La Flamme Road in Broussard. No serious injuries were reported in the incident, according to emergency officials,however a few students were transported to a local hospital for treatment.  According to the Lafayette Parish School Board, all students were enrolled at Katherine Drexel Elementary School.  The principal at Katherine Drexel and the Lafayette Parish School Transportation Director are on the scene assessing the situation.
