Lafayette is home to “American Idol” star MacKenzie Bourg, and this weekend is the man behind the glasses will return to his roots for a special homecoming performance.

Bourg captured the heart of America with his singing on the popular show “American Idol”. During Thursday night’s episode, he advanced to the final four.

“Good Luck MacKenzie!”

He is now making a special trip home to celebrate his success and many residents are pumped for his big return.

LCG Chief Communications Officer Cydra Wingerter says fans will have plenty of opportunities to catch a performance.

“He’s going to be doing a pep rally at STM, a parade and then a concert tomorrow night. We are hoping that people will pack Jefferson St. from Vermilion to Garfield. MacKenzie is going to be riding through in a convertible, and he is going to get to see all the love that Lafayette has been giving him.”

The parade begins at 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Lafayette.

A free concert will be held at Parc International immediately after.

Wingerter says the city is excited to welcome MacKenzie home and show the world what a great place Lafayette is to live.

“We know what Lafayette is and how special we are, so this is just another great opportunity to really put that out there on the national state, to show what Lafayette is all about.”

Bourg will sing the national anthem at the UL Lafayette baseball game Saturday at 11 a.m.
