BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – Bond has been set for a mother facing cruelty of a juvenile and drug charges after her 15-year-old son was found to be malnourished, weighing 47 pounds.
Rose Holland, 49, was given a bond of $115,000. She is charged with second-degree cruelty to a juvenile, possession of Schedule II CDS (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia. Below is a breakdown of the bond amounts related to the charges:
- Cruelty to a juvenile: $100,000
- Possession of crack cocaine: $10,000
- Possession of drug paraphernalia: $5,000
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the child was discovered Wednesday after an officer responded to a loud music complaint at a home located on North 46th Street. He was reportedly rescued while having a seizure.
Officers said EMS reported there was feces and urine on the cot the boy was lying on. Police added EMS also advised there were bug bites all over his body.
The boy was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Officials said the teen was doing much better by Friday morning.
Police are still investigating.
The case is prompting changes within the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services. Case workers will work with medical professionals to better evaluate whether parents are capable of caring for special needs or non-verbal children.
DCFS added when workers went to check on the boy in the past, they saw no signs of abuse or neglect.
