Broussard Charter Academy will not open this year as originally scheduled.

In a statement, the school’s operator, National Heritage Academies, said that state officials have created new regulations that require charter school operators that plan to open new schools to provide data on Louisiana schools they already operate.

“State education officials recently confirmed that the current data available for NHA-partner schools in Louisiana does not qualify Broussard Charter Academy to open under the newly adopted rules,” the statement read. “We believe that as new state performance data becomes available Broussard Charter Academy will qualify for a 2016 opening under these rules.”

NHA opened Willow Charter Academy in Lafayette last year. It also operates Advantage Charter Academy in Baker and Inspire Charter Academy in Baton Rouge.

“We are disappointed that our opportunity to serve the students, families and neighborhoods of Broussard will be delayed. However, we continue to work with the state for a successful 2016 opening,” the statement continued. “We assure Broussard, its mayor and civic leaders, parents who have expressed interest and the entire community that there is no change in our vision of operating a second partner school in Lafayette Parish.”
