Changes are being proposed to the major duties and responsibilities of the superintendent, in hopes of improving the working relationship between the board and the superintendent.
As the job description for all positions in the Lafayette Parish School System have been changed in some way, Interim Superintendent Burnell LeJuene says that he wanted to sure the job description of a superintendent was on the same agenda as the system’s new format. Listed in the new format is clarification, stating the superintendent is also the chief executive officer and the secretary treasurer.
LeJeune says, “Even though it’s been implied and a part of their duties for a long time, it was never indicated in the responsibilities. So, we wanted to make sure that was in there.”
Another major change falls under the superintendent’s education and experience. At one point in time the format stated that anyone applying for the position must have superintendent certification on their license.
LeJeune says, “Today, it’s not. You can actually not have certification as a superintendent, as long as designated chief academic officer does have superintendency on that particular certification.”
On Wednesday night’s school board meeting, these issues are set to be voted on and the proposed changes could possibly go into effect.
