A North Carolina teenager who works at Chick-Fil-A is getting widespread recognition for making a hearing impaired customer feel special.
A video of the teen employee was recently posted to Chick-Fil-A’s corporate Facebook page with the caption “Above and beyond the call of duty.” It has more than 14 million views.
The video shows the employee at the cash register using sign language to take a hearing impaired customer’s order.
“My deaf daughter Cynthia never had the chance to order for herself,” according to the video. “But when we were at this restaurant the operator simply took the order in sign language.”
“It was the first time my daughter could order something without feeling ashamed. And I am so grateful to the attendant that gave her this feeling. Her name is Taylor, and I want the whole world to know what a great job she does.”
The employee at the cash register has been identified as 17-year-old Taylor Anez of Fayetteville.
Anez told the paper that she has been able to speak sign language nearly all her life. She said she learned sign language from her deaf aunt and uncle as a way to communicate with them.
Anez uses sign language to communicate with deaf customers at the Fayetteville Chick-Fil-A where she works. Just last week, she reportedly took an order from a 5-year-old deaf boy.
