Clay Higgins has a new job.

On Wednesday, the former longtime law enforcement official was sworn in as a reserve deputy marshal for the Lafayette City Marshal’s Office.

Higgins received the oath of office from Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court Louis Perret.

Most recently, Higgins was the popular public information officer for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.  He resigned in late February during an impromptu press conference in front of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.

Higgins said his decision was reached after Sheriff Bobby Guidroz gave him orders he could not follow.

Chief Deputy Marshal Phil Conrad said Higgins wants to stay in law enforcement to keep his certification current.  “He has to stay up to date with certain law enforcement certifications like firearms and defensive tactics and this job gives him that opportunity.”

Conrad also said that Higgins will be a guest host on “Holding Accountable,” a twice-weekly production of the Lafayette City Marshals Office that airs on the Acadiana Open Channel.

“In his past guest host appearances, Higgins has always held himself to a very respectable standard and we could not be happier that he has decided to join our team.”

The “Holding Accountable,” program has been on air for 15 years and is hosted by City Marshal Brian Pope and Chief Deputy Conrad.

The show airs the photographs of fugitives and encourages viewers to call into a tip line if they have information that could lead police to their whereabouts.
