LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany said the latest effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act gave new lawmakers a chance to go on record on the issue.

The Republican-controlled House Tuesday voted to repeal, defund, or change Obamacare for the 67th time. Boustany (R-LA 3^rd District) voted to repeal Obamacare. He said it has not fixed the country’s broken health care system. He said premiums across Louisiana have increased since the law went into effect.

Boustany serves on the House Ways and Means Committee. He said the committee is working on a free market system reform that would give people access to high quality, affordable health care.

“The costs are not being controlled,” Boustany said of Obamacare. “We still have access problems here in the state. The Medicaid program is broken. Medicare is headed for problems and so many people and so many people whether they’re on Medicaid or Medicare can’t get into see a doctor. So we’ve got a number of issues that have not been adequately addressed.”

Boustany said the U.S. Supreme Court will decide this spring whether federal health care subsidies are allowed. If ruled illegal, he said subsidies would not offset costs in 36 states, including Louisiana, and would make things more expensive for everyone.
