OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) – Police say shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday morning to a call of multiple gunshots being fired here in the 400 block of Common Street in Opelousas.

They arrived to find that a man had been shot and killed, his name was Kenric Castille.

It’s just a sad, sad situation with the senseless killing,” Said City Councilman J. Tyrone Glover.

Neighbors said the killing was a result of a disagreement between De’angelo Rubin and Castille.

“Don’t matter what it was for or what it was over it shouldn’t happen like that you know,” Said Moosey Green.

The suspect, Rubin was arrested at about 9 a.m. Tuesday morning and is now charged with second-degree murder.

Moosey Green says he was Castille’s best friend.

He said he’d just left the house right before his friend was murdered.

“I heard multiple gunshots, so I turned around and came back because that’s my best friend,” Said Green.

He says he arrived to find his friend had been shot multiple times.

“When I got to the driveway I heard his girlfriend screaming and hollering in the house, calling my name,” Said Green.

James Castille says he’s lived on Common Street for over 40 years and would like to see a better police presence — in the once quiet neighborhood.

“It’s uncalled for, something needs to be done about it, that’s all I have to say. Seriously, something needs to be done about it,” Said Castille.

Police say although they have a suspect in custody, the case is still under investigation.
