A Louisiana sheriff says a 67-year-old man convicted on child sex charges in Florida has been sent back to Louisiana to face charges that he abused a girl there 30 years ago.
Plaquemines (PLAK-uh-minz) Parish Sheriff Lonnie Greco says Joseph Gable Wood Sr. was extradited last week from Florida, where he was convicted in January of molesting a 13-year-old girl.
Sheriff’s spokesman Eric Becnel says a Louisiana woman tells investigators Wood abused her for nine years when she was a child. He says investigators have rape evidence, but he cannot give details.
Becnel says there may be other victims along the Gulf Coast and as far as Montana and Alaska, where Wood worked on towboats. He says investigators hope they come forward.
It was not clear Wednesday whether Wood has an attorney who could comment.
