An ex-law enforcement official is in jail after a near hour-long stand-off with police in Acadia Parish.
Johnny Courville, a former Acadia Parish Sheriff Deputy and Crowley Police Officer, is charged with two counts of terrorizing for allegedly making threats against police and the mother of his child.
According to Chief K.P. Gibson, the former officer, was having domestic issues. Police searched for Courville Tuesday night and were able to track him to a home on the corner of Avenue F and 14th Street in Crowley, Wednesday afternoon.
“That’s when the stand-off began. He had mainly knives at his feet, three that officers were able to see,” said Gibson.
As News Ten’s crew pulled onto the scene, Courville was being escorted by a dozen deputies and officers to an sheriff’s vehicle. The suspect shouted at the cameras, “Thank you, I broke the law.”
Gibson said Courville’s mental state is questionable. “Obviously, anyone who would enter into a stand-off with police does not have a strong mental state at that time.”
The stand-off was over after around 45 minutes, as law enforcement was able to take him into custody with no injuries or violent incident.
“We took advantage of the situation and we sent in officers that he was comfortable with.”
The chief added, it had been years since Courville wore a badge.
One woman, house-hunting at the time of the stand-off said she saw dozens of officers with guns drawn.
“They were yelling at him to get on the ground and he yelled back not to kill his dog. I didn’t see anything in his hand, but I saw the officers and they had it pretty much under control.”
Gibson said, “There were some threats made, that he was going to take out anyone who got in his way.”
Courville was taken to the Acadia Parish Jail and, according to Gibson, will most likely be put into protective custody..
