Residents inside a Chester Street home in Lafayette were able to escape from a fire Sunday after smelling smoke.  Authorities say the fire started in the laundry room and quicky moved into the kitchen.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze within fifteen minutes, but not before the family of seven lost their home. A 21 year old family member sustained minor injuries while breaking a window in an attempt to put the fire out. Fire investigators have ruled that the blaze as accidental.

Meanwhile, on Lasalle Street, in Lafayette firefighters responded to another blaze. Luckily, the Landlord says this home was unoccupied, but tenants were in the process of moving in.  Fire investigators determined the fire originated in the front area of the home.  The cause is still under investigation.
