YOUNGSVILLE, La. (KLFY) –  From planting a Christmas tree to creating an ice skating rink, the city of Youngsville was ready to get into the Christmas spirit.

But now, residents will have to find another way to kick off the holiday season.

The decision was made Tuesday to cancel Christmas on the Boulevard.

The event was supposed to be the first big Christmas event in Youngsville.

“We had some great sponsors, some awesome vendors, and we just did not want to allow them to come out and set up for an event when we knew that there was a very big chance that the weather was going to be horrible,” said event coordinator Audrey Muffoletto.

While the event may not take place, organizers are looking to reschedule Christmas on the Boulevard for sometime next year.

“It’ll pretty much have all of the same things that were going to be offered on Christmas on the Bouelvard,” said Muffoletto, “It’ll just have a spring theme instead of a Christmas theme.”

Event sponsor and manager of Glaze House Company, Brian Washington is disappointed that the event will no longer take place but agrees it was a smart choice because of the forecast.

“It’s unfortunate,” said Washington, “But at the same time we understand because you know the rain is something that would really detract from a lot of people coming and it would sort of lessen the number of people that would otherwise come out so I think it was the right thing to do.”

Muffoletto will meet with coordinators next week and decide when they will reschedule Christmas on Boulevard.
