The Louisiana Governor’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (GOHSEP) continues to monitor another round of dangerous winter weather conditions possible across much of the state this week.  According to National Weather Service (NWS) forecasters, a strong cold front and an upper atmospheric weather disturbance will combine forces Wednesday night, when winter conditions are expected to begin in some areas.  Please use extreme caution if driving in areas impacted by the weather.

GOHSEP Director Kevin Davis said, “This type of weather can potentially impact travel and commerce.  Get your plans finalized today, before severe weather becomes a factor.”

Each of the four NWS offices that cover Louisiana has indicated they are monitoring the front and potential for dangerous conditions.  Citizens should look for possible advisories, watches and warnings from the NWS for your region.  Also, pay attention to your local media, first responders and local emergency managers for other important information.

Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) and Louisiana State Police (LSP) have resources available for motorists.  For updates on possible road closures, crashes, and other safety information, view the Louisiana State Police Facebook page, the LSP Twitter feed @LAStatePolice, or the DOTD travel information database by calling 511 or logging onto 511la.org.
