As house lawmakers close in on the end of sessions for decreasing Louisiana’s largest budget deficit to date, the sales tax is expected to grow by at least one penny on every dollar to help balance the state’s budget.

House lawmakers are also floating an increase up to two pennies.

The special session ends this Wednesday, with tons of budget problems still unresolved.

Members of the Louisiana house have also agreed to raise taxes on alcohol to help with the state’s budget.

This after the same bill failed on Friday when it didn’t get the 70 votes required for it to pass.

According to WAFB, after two days of negotiations the bill was advanced to the senate and resulted in a vote of 76 for and 25 against.

The alcohol tax hike was one of several measures being considered to stabilize the state’s budget.

This should happen before the end of the special session on Wednesday.
