ABBEVILLE, La. (KLFY) – Cody Guidry, one of seven remaining members of the Gremlin gang turned himself into Abbeville Police Wednesday night.
“Just in fear, like I’m just tired, just ready to get it over with,” Guidry said.
Guidry was arrested just steps away from the Abbeville police department at the restaurant Food Etc. As he was led away in handcuffs Guidry’s sister, Chelsea Guidry, says he is innocent of his charges — but guilty by association.
“Heartbreaking because I know he’s not the type of person,” Guidry sister, Chelsea Guidry said.
Guidry is charged with racketeering, conspiracy to commit racketeering and criminal street gang violence.
His arrest comes just one day after a civil rights group called True Healing Under God held a news conference.
The organization insisted that there is no Gremlin gang and urged the wanted men to turn themselves in.
“A good caring person, hard-working man been working for years, not in a gang, well no gang at all, there is none,” she said.
Guidry says he is not a part of any gang and grew up with the other men, he also says some of them are his family members. When asked why he eluded police for so long, Guidry says it was the fear of the unknown.
“It took so long because I don’t know what I was getting myself into so I’d rather just run but now I see it’s not working,” Said Guidry.
*Clarification: KLFY would like to clarify that Cody Guidry in fact was not a current employee of Abbeville Paint and Body. The business confirms with KLFY that Guidry quit his job 6 months ago.
