Jefferson Davis Sheriff’s deputies assigned to patrol stopped a Black truck on Hwy 26 just north of Lantz road.

The vehicle had no operable taillights.  Deputies stopped the vehicle and approached the driver.

The driver, Damion Blake Sheppard, 26, of 404 East Clay street, Crowley, LA advised he had no driver’s license, registration or insurance.

Sheppard told deputies that the vehicle belonged to his cousin.  Deputies noticed Sheppard was overly nervous and admitted to driving the long way around Jennings to avoid police.

Deputies asked Sheppard for consent to search, in which Sheppard signed the consent form and informed deputies there was a weapon in the vehicle.

A juvenile passenger in the truck was removed and placed in the Sheriff’s unit.

The search revealed a loaded  9mm handgun, one small plastic baggy of suspected cocaine, and a light bulb modified to be a smoking device.

Sheppard was placed under arrest for possession of a firearm by convicted felon, possession of controlled dangerous substances II Cocaine, Possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal use of CDS in the presence of a minor, possession of a firearm with CDS II and  proper equipment required on vehicles. Sheppard was booked into Parish jail with no bond.

The juvenile passenger was released to his mother.
