GUEYDAN, La. (KLFY) Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Payou says that continued flooding concerns in the Gueydan area have forced the closure of Jesse Owens Elementary and Gueydan High School on Monday August 22, 2016  & Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

Peyou says Pre-K & Kindergarten parents will be contacted with testing dates and times about the first day of school dates.

On Friday, Helicopter pilots from the National Guard arrived in the area and dropped a couple hundred sandbags on the levee near Hwy. 713.

Town officials say the move was to protect the town from more potential flooding.
