Koryn Hawthorne only had to wait about five minutes Tuesday night to see if she was safe on “The Voice.” The Abbeville singer was the first contestant saved when audience voting results were announced live on the singing competition.

Hawthorne, 17, is now one of just eight artists still remaining on the show. Meghan Linsey of Ponchatoula also represents Louisiana on the show.

Rob Taylor of Donaldsonville and Deanna Johnson were eliminated Tuesday. The top 8 competition begins Monday.

Hawthorne will get to work with pop star Gwen Stefani, who will serve as an advisor on Hawthorne’s team, which is coached by million-selling artist and producer Pharrell Williams.

“Gwen just embodies liberation and individuality as a female,” said Williams. “She’s very talented and we’re fortunate to have her on the show.”

Celebrity coach Blake Shelton interrupted, saying “And she’s hot.”

For the past two weeks, Shelton predicted Hawthorne would advance to the next round. After Hawthorne sang Ed Sheeran’s “Make It Rain” Monday night, Shelton showered her with more accolades.

“I don’t know how you could have done any better than what you just did,” Shelton said Monday. “You sing great and you have the emotion.

“How old are you again? What do I always say? Welcome to the top eight. Let’s just get it out there.”

In rehearsals taped before Monday’s show, Hawthorne practiced with Ryan Tedder, a producer for Adele, Taylor Swift and Beyoncè, who was wowed by her performance.

“Koryn gave us goose bumps from the first 10 seconds,” said Tedder. “Her talent is super impressive.”

Hawthorne, Williams and Sawyer Fredericks opened Monday’s program singing the Gavin DeGraw hit, “I Don’t Want to Be.”Want to watch?
