A Lafayette man is now in jail after taking three police agencies on a 17 mile high-speed chase that ended in Acadia Parish.
Scott Police Chief Chad Leger says it all started around 5:52 this morning on I-10, when officers tried to pull over Ryan Desormeaux, 31, for tail lights that were not working.
Desormeaux, who was driving a 1993 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck, failed to pull over and exited the Interstate onto Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Leger says Desormeaux drove on Willow Street and then onto Pecan Grove Road, where he exceeded speeds of 70 mph in a residential area.
The Lafayette Police Department assisted Scott Police officers in the chase when Desormeaux drove onto Eraste Landry Road via Cameron Street and Galbert Road.
He drove through another residential neighborhood before returning Ambassador Caffery Parkway.
Desormeaux then merged on to I-10 westbound, where he exceeded speeds of 100 mph.
A State Police Trooper joined the chase shortly before Desormeaux exited I-10 in Duson.
The Trooper used his own vehicle to disable and stop the pickup truck before Desormeaux encountered heavy traffic on Highway 95.
Officers arrested Desormeaux after a brief chase on foot. He was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail and then transported to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
Desormeaux is being charged with Aggravated Flight from an Officer, (inoperative) Tail Lamps, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
He was also wanted on two warrants for failing to pay child support. Leger says Desormeaux could face additional charges from Lafayette and State Police.
