The City of Lafayette saw a 2% decrease in total reported crimes in 2015 but an increase in homicides, forcible rapes, and thefts, according to uniform crime statistics released today by the Lafayette Police Department.

Crimes of robbery, assault, and burglary dropped last year.

Homicides more than doubled last year. Nine were recorded in 2014 and 20 were recorded in 2015.

Ten forcible rapes were recorded in 2014. There were 19 last year.

Thefts in the city were up slightly in 2015 with 5,334 incidents compared to 5,208 in 2014.
