Lafayette Parish public schools will be closed Thursday “out of an abundance of caution.”

Heavy rain and possible flooding is expected in the area, beginning Wednesday and lasting through the end of the week.

Principals will be on-call in case they are needed at their schools. Head custodians must check their facilities during the day to assess conditions for re-opening schools.

Some central office staff will be at work. Officials will assess conditions Thursday to determine whether schools will be open Friday.

Both day and night LPSS adult education classes are also canceled Thursday, including high stakes testing in adult education.

Teurlings Catholic High School, St. Thomas More Catholic High School and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School also are closed Thursday.
