VERMILION PARISH, La. (KLFY) – A Lake Charles man is dead following a crash in Vermilion Parish.
State Police responded to the scene shortly before 12:25 a.m. on LA 339 near Reno Road.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Martin Nguyen, 31, of Lafayette and Hoang Nguyen, 30, of Lake Charles were driving a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette southbound on LA 339 at a high rate of speed.
The driver, Martin, was unable to negotiate a curve and ran off the right side of the roadway, causing the vehicle to flip and partially eject Hoan Nguyen.
As the investigation continues, troopers originally believed Nguyen was not wearing a seat belt but have now determined Nguyen was in fact wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. This investigation remains ongoing. and was pronounced dead on scene, according to Master Trooper Brooks David.
Martin Nguyen was properly restrained and sustained moderate injuries.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment after standard toxicology samples were taken.
State Police suspect impairment and speed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
