Officials with Lafayette Consolidated Government are attempting to make the city of Lafayette more appealing to developers.

Consultants for LCG estimate an additional 90,000 more residents will live in Lafayette parish by the year 2030. Consultants say as more and more developments happen in rural areas like Maurice, Broussard and Youngsville, other issues like infrastructure arise. This issue has prompted officials to introduce new regulations called the Unified Development Code on Tuesday which would switch the focus away from rural areas and back to the city. The new regulations include enlarging sidewalk space, preventing gravel parking lots in the city of Lafayette and creating a new underground drainage system.

The Unified Development Code regulations are set to go before the city parish council in May. The Lafayette Planning Commission will review the new regulations Monday.
