LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY)- The Lafayette Regional Airport’s current terminal was originally built in the mid 1950’s it had some upgrades in the late 80’s, but is way over due for a new terminal.
Airport Executive director Steven Picou says red tape has held up the date of the groundbreaking of the projected $90 million new terminal.
“We have no control on FAA state and federal level,” Picou said.
This current terminal is the smallest in the state size wise, but Lafayette Regional is the fourth-largest airport in Louisiana when it comes to passengers. Picou says once the FAA gives the OK, a 30-day bid is put out then its go time to break ground.
Picou said the groundbreaking will likely happen in late spring.
Once they begin building the new terminal, camera’s will be installed outside and streaming online so the community can watch the progress of the construction, the director said.
