EUNICE, La. — LSU Eunice Bengal Baseball will honor one of their own and all the men and women of law enforcement during pre-game ceremonies Saturday, April 16 at 3 p.m. when the Bengals take on Delgado at home.
The Bengals plan to honor the memory of Deputy Jeremy Triche, who was killed in the line of duty in August 2012 while working for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. Triche played for the Bengals in 2004 and 2005. He finished his LSUE baseball career with 15 home runs and 63 RBIs.
Triche was killed August 16, 2012, when a member of a domestic terrorist group in LaPlace opened fire on him and two other deputies as they were investigating an ambush shooting that wounded another sheriff’s deputy. Triche and Deputy Brandon Nielsen were killed. Seven subjects were arrested and held in connection with the two shooting incidents.
Triche has served four years with the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office. His family will be at Bengal Stadium Saturday as the team honors his memory and his service.
The Bengals will also show their appreciation for the men and women of Louisiana who serve as law enforcement officers. The team will say thank you to the Eunice Police Department, the Eunice City Marshals Office, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Crowley Police Department, the Louisiana State Police and other agencies. Representatives from each agency will be on hand for the pre-game ceremony.
The Bengals (38-1) play a doubleheader against Delgado (21-9) on Saturday. The Bengals are ranked fourth in the NJCAA Division II poll, and Delgado is ranked 9th the Division I poll.
