RIVERVIEW, Fla. (WFLA) — A man died following a shooting in the Riverview area on Tuesday.

Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the area of US-301 and Balm Riverview Road at 3:08 p.m.

A man was shot in the upper body and was taken to the hospital, where he died.

Lucy Acevedo lives nearby and said she didn’t hear the shots, but heard the sirens coming her way.

“When I looked again, he was receiving CPR next to the bicycle on the ground. I really thought the cyclist was hit by a car, but now looking back at everything that happened there, I realize it was a shooting,” said Acevedo.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the shooter remained at the scene and is cooperating with detectives.

It’s still unclear what led to the shooting. Jim Bowden lives in Riverview and said you never know what can take place on this busy road.

“This is a dangerous intersection and traffic is so bad anyway, and people are kind of crazy anyway so you know, the times,” said Bowden.

Florida Department of Transportation traffic camera footage showed a large police presence in the area.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
