Mayor hospitalized after balcony collapses at home

The Mayor of Plaquemine has been hospitalized after after a fall at her home Friday night.

According to a city spokesperson, Plaquemine Mayor Mary Sue Gulotta was on her second floor balcony at her home when it collapsed causing her to fall.


A passerby who saw the incident called EMS who transported her to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center where she is listed in stable condition.

Gulotta is the widow of the late Plaquemine Mayor Mark A. “Tony” Gulotta who passed away on September 10 after a massive heart attack.

Gulotta was appointed mayor after her husband’s death and will serve in the position until January when a new mayor is sworn into office.
