NEW ORLEANS (AP) – First lady Michelle Obama and Jill Biden are coming to New Orleans to honor the city’s work finding homes for homeless veterans.
Obama and Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, are joining New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu and leaders from government, industry and the non-profit sector at an event Monday.
They’ll discuss the Mayors Challenge to End Veteran Homelessness, which Obama started last June. Officials say 432 mayors, seven governors and 131 other local officials have pledged to house all veterans in their communities by the end of this year.
New Orleans officials say the city did so in December. However, WWL-TV reported in January that at least one homeless veteran was still on the streets.
