Missing Rayne woman found dead near Crowley

CROWLEY, La. (KLFY) – A Rayne woman who was reported missing Tuesday was found dead Wednesday morning, according to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Public Information Officer Maxine Trahan said investigators believe Evelyn Leger, 71, died of natural causes along Maraist Road near Crowley.

Leger left her home near Rayne last night and headed to Crowley but not return.

Investigators believe she became confused while driving and then drove into the field.

Her car then became stuck, and sheriff’s deputies think she started walking to get help

Trahan said Leger’s body was found about 200 yards from her car around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Leger was pronounced dead at the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office.
