Chastant Brothers presents your Lawn and Garden.
Today on your lawn and garden we’re talking about mulch. There are different kinds you can use in your yard. But what is it and why do we need it?
Especially with the heat and when it gets up to ninety degrees and you’re watering mulch s gonna keep the moisture around your plant. Even your vegetables, the one I use most around those is the pine straw. It works great, keeps you out of the mud, keeps your moisture intact. If you have a lot of washing in your garden it will stop that. For flowerbeds and fancier areas where you want a nice mulch we also have a bark mulch. This comes from the outside of the tree, so you’re gonna get two years out of it instead of one. Mulch is from the inside of the tree, this is a cypress which will last you a good while, but this one is a cedar mulch. It does a good job to keep things from washing and has a reddish tint to it. These are grade A so they are gonna last so much longer than just a regular mulch would. Pine needles are what I like the best, especially for the vegetable garden. I use them in the flowerbeds too, it works great on weeds. It really has kept my weeds down almost one hundred percent. It’s easy to put it out. This one comes in a bag and is cut, if you buy it in a bail they come in long pieces and is harder to put around your plants. It’s also self-leveling and looks great after you put it out.
