After a devastating fire nearly a month ago burned down the Little Zorah Baptist Church in New Iberia, the church has found a temporary home down the road as they begin to rebuild.

Since the fire, members of the 128 year old church have been sharing Sunday services with Star Pilgrim Church. Pastor Watson said both ministries enjoy worshiping together. Still, Little Zorah has already started looking to the future of their new home. They have started fundraising with a goal of 500,000 dollars.

“It’s going to be a difficult day to re-adjust to having worship in two locations but at the same time we know the future is going to be bigger than anything we could imagine.” said Pastor Watson.

They plan to memorialize the old church bell and baptistery, two of the only items left after the fire. Plans for the new church are complete and they are big. Pastor Watson says they want a facility that will accommodate the community including a corner store for kids, a salon and barber shop as well as several resources for senior citizens.”We’re looking to do a small grocery in the facility particularly for our senior citizens. Some years ago, we came into several agreements with doctors and so we’re going to have a small clinic there for our senior citizens in the community.” said Pastor Watson.

Although the fire remains under investigation and its cause is still undetermined Pastor Watson says they have put the fire behind them and are only looking to the future.
