Pierre C. Shadeaux will be coming in Tuesday morning from the Zoo of Acadiana.

The Cajun groundhog’s forecast is relevant for those living in south Louisiana.

Many people will gather in downtown New Iberia Tuesday morning to watch Pierre come out of his specialty built cajun cottage.

Everyone will be watching to see if Pierre sees his shadow or not.

If he sees his shadow that means we’ll have a short spring, which means a quicker return to summer.

If he doesn’t see his shadow that means six extra weeks of winter, or with the way these temps have been feeling we’ll say a longer spring and we get to put off the summer heat and humidity for a little while longer.

Tuesday’s events leading up to the Cajun groundhog’s forecast will also include the mayor presenting an official proclamation on behalf of the city.

The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at Bouligny Plaza in downtown New Iberia and it is open to the public.
