BATON ROUGE – A little sunshine never hurt anyone.

No. 1 LSU is warm and dry and in the NCAA Super Regional round after a 2-0 victory over North Carolina Wilmington on a bright and shiny Monday afternoon at Alex Box Stadium to win the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. The game was originally scheduled for Sunday night but postponed until Monday at noon because of expected bad weather that never arrived.

LSU starter Jared Poche (8-1) threw eight and two-thirds innings with a career-high eight strikeouts and allowed six hits and one walk before being relieved in the top of the ninth by Parker Bugg with a runner on second. Bugg struck out pinch-hitter Andy Austin to end the game.

The Tigers (51-10) will host the best-of-three Super Regional beginning Friday or Saturday against the winner of the NCAA Houston Regional, which was down to Louisiana-Lafayette and Rice on Monday afternoon. Rice had to beat the Cajuns twice to advance.

UNCW finished its season at 41-18.

LSU took its 2-0 lead in the second inning after two outs. Andrew Stevenson reached on an error by first baseman Corey Dick, then got to second on a balk by UNCW starter Justin Crump (1-2). Chris Chinea doubled him in for a 1-0 lead, and Jake Fraley followed with an RBI single.
