NEW ORLEANS – As the procession for Officer Daryle Holloway got underway, hundreds of family, friends, and officers made their way to St Louis Cemetery number 3. It’s been a tough week for the NOPD and Chief Michael Harrison, who says he lost not only a colleague but also a true friend.

Holloway, a 22 year veteran of the force, was said to have one of the most magnetic personalities and didn’t know a stranger. Today friends and family said goodbye to a hero.

“I have to tell you this is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, especially as the chief, to carry this officer and feel the pain of the Holloway family. I watched all my officers show up to work prepared to serve,” Harrison said.

The service lasted about 15 minutes with a motorcade of officers followed by the family limousine. Holloway’s family was presented with an American flag and all of his awards and recognitions. Soon after, he received a gun salute.

Hundreds of NOPD officers, as well as dozens from around the region, came to pay their respects to the fallen officer. As the service came to an end, the message was to remember Holloway for all the good he did and stood for.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu said, “In my entire life I have never seen such an outpouring of support for an individual that has served this city like we saw today. This is a city that has come together to support the police department and the city, but an individual who exemplifies what it means to be an officer.”
