On March 2, 2016 at approximately 6 o’clock p.m. while patrolling the area of “The Hill” in Opelousas, La, a patrol officer with the Opelousas Police Department heard approximately five shots fired in the area.
With assistance from concerned citizens in the neighborhood, officers were able to locate two male subjects suspected of the shooting by the Chevron Gas Station on Creswell Lane.
Officers were able to locate one box of .38 special bullets on one of the subjects and one .38 special revolver with six spent shell casing on the other subject.
The two subjects’ were identified as Mr. Joseph K. Papillion and Mr. David Savoy of Opelousas.
Mr. Papillion and Mr. Savoy later admitted to officers their involvement in the incident. At the completion of the officer’s investigation, Mr. Papillion was charged and booked into the Opelousas City Jail for Illegal Possession of Firearm on School Property and Mr. Savoy was charged and booked into the Opelousas City Jail for Discharging Firearm in City Limits and Illegal Possession of Firearm on School Property.
