UPDATE:
Opelousas police say an investigation is on-going after a local woman died while breaking up a fight during a domestic disturbance at her home.
Police say the incident happened around seven Friday night in the 800 block of Cherry Street during a brawl over visitation rights involving the victims grandbaby.
According to police, 26 year old David Joseph and 23 year old Michael Jones began fighting when Jones’ mother intervened and then suddenly collapsed to the ground.
Police say she appeared to be in distress and had difficulty breathing.
Police say she was transported to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead a short while later.
Joseph was charged with one count of aggravated battery.

Opelousas police are investigating the death of a local woman who collapsed and later died after trying to break up a street fight. So far, police have confirmed that the incident happened overnight on Cherry Street when the woman intervened during a brawl between a group of people. Neither the victims identity or the cause of death has been released.
