Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash involving a pedestrian on U.S. 90 westbound near Ricohoc around 11:30 Sunday night.  The crash claimed the life of 60 year old Larry Finister of Berwick.

According to Master Trooper Brooks David, when emergency responders arrived on the scene, they located Finister lying in the roadway.  Based on the evidence at the scene, Troopers believe Finister was lying in the outside travel lane when he was run over. Evidence recovered at the scene lead Troopers to believe the hit and run vehicle is a late model GMC truck or SUV.  After striking Finister, the vehicle fled the scene.  Finister was pronounced dead on scene by the St. Mary parish Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol use is suspected to be a factor for Finister, and routine toxicology samples have been taken to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.

Police remind motorist who drink, to find a safe way to get home.  Call a friend to come pick you up, or call a cab service to pick you up and drop you off safe at your destination.  Never get behind the wheel of a vehicle if you have had any alcoholic beverage.  Buzzed driving is drunk driving.  Remember to wear bright and reflective clothing when walking or bicycling at night.
