The suspected scammers are calling from a Texas phone number and identifying themselves as being with the Law Office of Jacob Clark.
The suspects told the victims a warrant has been issued for their arrest for an outstanding debt with a financial institution. They would then either ask the victim to provide or confirm their social security number.
The Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office wants to remind residents to not give out any personal information or confirm any information to these scammers.
Regarding another scam in Acadiana sheriff’s officials say a new telephone scam started on Thursday.
The scammer calls a residence and pretends to be a law enforcement officer and/or a sheriff’s deputy, telling the person there is a warrant out for their arrest because they missed a court date, and the warrant can be re-called or taken care of by making a payment over the phone.
Officials say do not to give out any personal information, instead record the telephone number if you have caller ID and ask the caller for his/her name, then hang up and report the scam.
