NATCHITOCHES, LA (KSLA) –
“I have a bit of concern because of the organization’s reputation,” explained one Natchitoches resident.
The Ku Klux Klan appears to be rounding up members in Natchitoches Parish. A KSLA News 12 viewer told us about this pamphlet that is circulating in his community, now he is speaking out.
“My first impression when I saw it was ‘what is this’ and I actually thought that it might be something that somebody had dropped, that they wanted; like a child’s toy or something like that,” said a Natchitoches resident who found the letter.
But it had nothing to do with a child’s toy at all. When several Natchitoches residents woke up Saturday morning, they found a message of hate on their front lawns.
“Allegedly left by people recruiting for the KKK, we are aware of it and we are looking in to the matter,” said Chief of Police Micky Dove, with the Natchitoches Police Department.
The packages, wrapped in bright colorful packaging, had a pamphlet from the Ku Klux Klan inside and a bag of dirt to weigh down the message.
“I was heading toward Shreveport and I was taking note of all the driveways and lawns these items were still lying on and it was pretty much everybody’s lawns and driveways all the way down to the main four corners of town,” said the Natchitoches resident.
We decided to see who was actually behind this to see if it actually was the KKK, and we dialed the number on the pamphlet. A recording answered, it started out with “Thank you for calling the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan.”
Debra Medlock was one of the many homeowners in Natchitoches who got the package.
“When my daughter found it I said, ‘put that in the trash.’ Because I didn’t raise my kids that way,” said Medlock.
She says the message, while it does concern her, is not going to stress her out.
“It didn’t phase me. I mean what can you do? You can burn a cross in my yard. what can you do to me? Nothing,” said Medlock.
The Natchitoches Police say they had several calls about the packages over the weekend.
