Congressman Steve Scalise, the House Republican Whip, held his annual offshore energy tour to help educate members of Congress about oil and gas exploration on deepwater drilling rigs off the coast of Louisiana and other Gulf Coast states.

During Scalise’s annual tour, he was joined by six Republican Congressman. Scalise attacked President Obama’s energy policy and complained about over-regulation during the event.

But while Scalise was bashing Obama for reducing oil and gas exploration on federal lands, his Republican colleague from Georgia, Rep. Buddy Carter, talked about the Obama administration’s recent decision to expand drilling to the Eastern Seaboard, including off his district. He said his constituents remember the images of the Gulf oil spill and that’s why regulation is important.

“Obviously, we are very concerned about our environment and we’re going to do everything we can to protect our environment,” said Carter. “That’s why it’s vitally important that we have rules and regulations.”
