“Nobody deserves that,” said Lacie Livingston, the victim’s daughter, through tears.

“It’s going to be hard but I have to be strong for me and my brother because I’m all he has now.”

Firefighters discovered the body of Susan George after containing the blaze and entering the Margaret street home.

The cause of death is unknown, but investigators are treating the case as a homicide.

George’s son Kendall Livingston, who lives with his mother, was on a field trip in Lafayette when he heard the news.

“My phone was going off.  A lot of people were hitting me up saying ‘hey you need to get home’. She was a great mother.  Whatever I needed, whatever my sister needed she was there for us.”

George’s daughter Lacie Livingston describes her mother as a hard worker. George was enrolled at South Louisiana Community College perusing a Sociology degree.

Lacie has two jobs, a work ethic she says she learned from mom.

“Up until she was disabled she worked a whole lot, her whole life.  Medical field, post office for years.  She always had that go-getter attitude and tried to make things happen regardless of what it takes. So I think I kind of picked that up from her.  Even things in my house.  If it’s not a certain way it bothers me like it bothered her a lot.”

Lacie says one of her fondest memories of her mother is when she and Kendall went to Lake Charles to visit their older brother about three years ago.

“We went as a family and there was no drama it was just good fun. We went and walked on the beach.  That was my first time walking on a beach.”

Saint Martinville police and the State Fire Marshals are investigating the case.

Family members are holding a candlelight vigil for George. It will take place at 6:00 Sunday night at 1310 South Main Street in St. Martinville.
