The Lafayette Parish School Board appears poised to take the first step toward shifting student populations at some schools, while putting plans in motion for further changes.

The Daily Advertiser reports a final vote is scheduled for Wednesday and the proposal is to move some students from the overcrowded Green T. Lindon Elementary and Youngsville Middle to Katherine Drexel Elementary and Broussard Middle, which have classroom space available.

All of the schools are in the Broussard/Youngsville area of southern Lafayette Parish, which has seen some of the biggest population gains in recent years.

Board member Jeremy Hidalgo, whose district includes much of Broussard and Youngsville, said he thinks many parents have come around to the idea of new zones.
