A new look is on the way for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. For the first time in decades, the sheriff’s office will have a new location.

The sheriff’s office is moving from Market Street to the former Acadiana prep school on Prudhomme Lane in Opelousas. Lieutenant Clay Higgins says the 2.1 million dollar project was several years in the making.

He says Sheriff Bobby Guidroz made the move by carefully managing their budget over the years. Higgins says this location will allow for a quicker response time.

“From this facility if you have something like a large explosion or a school shooting something like that where you expect we’re all coming and we will. From this facility here we’re jumping on i-49 north or south or 1-90 east or west”

Higgins says old headquarters will only be for jail staff and the civil division. They expect the new complex to be fully functional by the end of the month.
