Members of Star Pilgrim Baptist Church in New Iberia are looking for more than just answers after being burglarized Monday night.

Over $20,000 of merchandise is gone following a burglary. Leaders of the church aren’t exactly calling this a break in, because the thieves walked right through the back door.

Pastor Shawn Watson, Senior Pastor at Star Pilgrim Baptist Church, made the discover Tuesday morning. Watson says he was coming in around 7:30 to go about business as usual, when he notice things were out of place. “As I walked through the church I began to notice things went missing and after noticing that sound equipment and things of that nature was missing I called the police department to tell them we had a break in.”

But, after taking a closer look around, Pastor Watson discovered the backdoor that is very seldom used, was unlocked. Watson says, I’m not going to accuse anybody but all indication look like it something from the inside.”

The thieves got away with over $20,000 worth of electronics, including two bass guitars, multiple microphones, speakers, even a small refrigerator.

“Breaking into God’s house is not something that you want to do. You will be caught! Just that simple, you will be caught and I want you to hear that”, says Watson.

While the Iberia Parish Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate, church leaders are asking the community to keep their eyes open for any of the stolen items, you can find a complete list of them below.
