BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) – The Baton Rouge Police Department says they have arrested a suspect in the shooting death of a teen on Tennessee Street Friday night.
Police say the shooting happened just after 9:30 p.m. in the 2100 block of Tennessee St.
According to police, 20-year-old Byron Devore was holding a handgun while face timing on his cell phone when the gun discharged hitting 17-year-old Gerald Levi in the head.
Levi was taken to a local hospital where he later died.
Investigators have ruled the shooting accidental.
Devore has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison where he has been charged with negligent homicide.
This is the second accidental shooting this week involving a teenager.
Thursday afternoon, a 16-year-old boy accidentally shot his relative, 16-year-old Darneisha Williams, while playing with a gun inside of a home on Brady Street. Williams was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was last listed in critical condition.Copyright 2016 WAFB. All rights reserved.
